Sanxindui Museum is located in the Mortheast of Sanxingdui Ruins,40 Km south of Chengdu,the capital of Sichuan Province.Sanxindui Puins cover an area of 12 sp.Km Kilometers,which used to be the town of the state of ancient Shui.In 1988 the ruins were put on the list of the protected treasures of the state.
In spring 1929,a farmer dug a water ditch in Nanxinzhen area .He happened to find out a colorfjl jade in the field. Here on the same spot 400 valuable relics had been discovered including stone jade,jade rings,and other jade articles.The discovery of the valuable jade brought an attention to the circle of archeologists in China.In 1933,a team from the museum under the Huaxi University arrived at the spot ,thus starting a formal excavation on Sanxindui ruins.The archeologists realized that the ruins used to be a town of ancient Shui.As time went on , they gradually identified the location of the city walls in the east,west and south,and unearthed the ruins of huge plalces and over ten thousand relics.Between July and September 1986,the archeologists discovered two large-scale covered holes in the ground,where they unearthed more than a thousand priceless treasures.Such a discovery greatly excited the whole country.The archeologists believed that the two holes used to be places where ancient people offered sacrifices to their gods or ancestors,and afterwards the archeologists named the holes as the No.1 and No.2 sacrificial pits . Later a museum was set up on the ruins and opened to the public in October 1997.It offers a general profile of Sanxindui ruins, and displays relics unearthed from the No.1 and No.2 sacrificial pits .

Entrance Hall
